Dare Devil Dachshund Puppies around 4 weeks start off with a puppy mush diet. It consists of esbilac puppy weaning formula mixed with a good brand of Wet Puppy Food. This mix over the course of two weeks transitions from a fairly liquid consistency to fully wet puppy food.
Starting at around 6 weeks we mix in dry food with the wet food. When puppies go home, they are on a diet of 1/4c. dry food and 1 tbsp wet food per meal eating three times a day: breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
Dare Devil Dachshunds sends home quite a few days worth of food to get you started. A puppy that eats the same food in their new home that they did in their original home really helps with their transition. And we want to make sure that they have the best possible transition! There are three brands of food that are recommended for your puppy. We have used most recently Hills Science Diet. We've also used Purina Pro Plan and would also highly recommend Royal Canin. Typically our pups eat a quarter cup of dry food at each meal. Based on your dog's weight, it is always important to read the instructions on the dog food container as well as conversing with your vet. A dog's diet is an important component of their overall health and well-being, so it is important to choose your pet's food wisely.
We also currently use the same brand of wet food: Hills Science Diet. We have used Purina Pro Plan and would also recommend Royal Canin. Typically we add in a tablespoon of wet food mixed with the dry food at each meal. This isn't required, but in spoiling our pets they seem to enjoy it!
